Publisher's Description Of CounterSpy
Sunbelt Software CounterSpy is a spyware and malware remover developed by Sunbelt Software.  It is a anti-spyware tool that detects, deletes and protects the user's computer from a broad range of malicious software.

CounterSpy has Active Protection, protecting the PC in real-time mode. It remove spyware and protect the computer from pop-up ads, browser redirects (hijack), lagging performance and other malicious threats. Counterspy's Active Protection system also  employs dozens of online 'guards' which monitor the PC for suspicious software attempting to install.

Morever, CounterSpy gets its updated spyware definitions from three sources, Sunbelt's research team, Microsoft's own spyware research group, and directly from users.

Counterspy is powered by a hybrid engine that merges spyware detection and remediation with another Sunbelt's product, the VIPRE (Virus Intrusion Protection Remediation Engine).

VIPRE incorporates both traditional Anti-Virus technology and Anti-Malware techniques. The marriage of technologies enables CounterSpy to respond effectivel.
Another tool that CounterSpy offer is the, FirstScan. It is a scan tool that remove and runs when triggered by a CounterSpy scan to root out deeply embedded malware, even before Windows loads.

"...this program found 11 spyware files and one Trojan Horse file in my home computer. Interesting, because I run Ad-Aware and Spybot as my anti-spyware programs daily......and these two didn't find what Counterspy found! I'm sold. Though my other programs are "free", I gladly will spend the $19 bucks or so for this program for my other machines now. No, I don't work for the PC World folks; nor the Counterspy folks; nor Amazon or any computer outfit..."

"...It has active protection, which prevents browser hijack attempts, unauthorized changes to internet settings and alerts me when newly installed programs try to add themselves to my startup menu. It has caught spyware which was missed by several other programs. It prevents unauthorized changes to windows programs, scans automatically each day, and places bad cookies and malware into quarantine automatically, to be removed later. In addition, it comes with a file shredder and a security settings analyzer, which alerts you to weak security settings and recommends the correct changes..."

"...I read about, then downloaded the trail version of Counter Spy, easy to use. No learning curve, run setup, even has a default scheduled scan time preset, you can change it if you want. I rebooted and noticed my the computer started quicker, not that it really matters. Biggest difference is I can surf the Net without waiting for the page to load. For $20 I think it's worth it..."
